Kirks’s death was classified as “accidental”.

Kirk Davis

Kirk Davis was a veteran and father who loved to make people laugh. He tinkered around in the garage on old cars. He retired from working at the Bucksport Paper Mill. Kirk Davis was 64 years old when he passed away unexpectedly on December 4th, 2017. Shortly before his passing, Kirk’s drinking had increased due to depression after his daughter, Robin, had recently passed away. Kirk was found at the bottom of his basement stairs, his death was ruled accidental, as his BAC was .176, according to his medical reports . As a result, his death was never investigated.

A short time after Kirk’s passing, David Appleby was arrested for (and was later charged with) felony forgery and theft because he forged Kirk’s signature on a $2500 check that he had written to himself. This has been documented both in news articles and from his indictment with Hancock County Court. A witness reported David being at Kirk’s home the morning of his accident. Based on the forgery transactions, it’s presumed that David was in the home at the time Kirk fell. David never reported him falling, though, and Kirk’s body was found by his girlfriend many hours later.
